The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
