The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a fitting requital, 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
