The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a return for the insolent, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 , A fitting reward. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
