Wherefore admonish thou! thou art not, by the grace of thy Lord, a soothsayer or a madman. 29 Or say they: a poet for whom we wait some adverse turn of fortune! 30 say [to them], "Wait then: I too am waiting along with you!" -- 31 Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk? 32 Do they say: 'He has invented it' No, they do not believe. 33 So let them bring a discourse like it, if they are truthful 34 Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators? 35 Or is it they who created the heavens and the earth? No; the truth is that they lack sure faith. 36 Or, are the treasures of your Lord in their keeping? Or, are they the controllers? 37 Or have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority. 38 Or has He only daughters and ye have sons? 39 Or is it that thou dost ask for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?- 40 Or, is the Unseen in their keeping, so they are writing it down? 41 Or do they want to stage a deception? -- Then only those who do not believe will be the ones who will be tricked. 42 Or have they a god other than Allah? Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him). 43 And if they were to see a piece of the heaven falling down, they would say: "Clouds gathered in heaps!" 44 Then leave them, till they encounter their day wherein they shall be thunderstruck, 45 The Day when their plotting will avail them nothing and no help shall be given them. 46 But, verily, for those who are bent on doing evil, there is suffering in store [even] closer at hand than that [supreme suffering in the hereafter]: but most of them are not aware of it. 47 And wait thou patiently the judgment of thy Lord; verily thou art before Our eyes; and hallow the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest. 48 And in the night also hallow Him, and at the setting of the stars. 49
