The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
