He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
