He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 In honored books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
