He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attend to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
