He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
