He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 So you are after him! 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
