He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And hath fear, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
