He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
