He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
