He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And hath fear, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
