He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
