He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
