He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
