He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
