He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
