He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
