He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
