The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun is overthrown, 1 the stars are made to fade away, 2 and when the mountains are made to vanish, 3 The ten-month pregnant female camels are abandoned, 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together; 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what crime she had been slain, 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 when Hell shall be set blazing, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward. 14 I swear by the receding stars. 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 And the close of night, 17 The rising dawn, 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, 20 Obeyed one; then trustworthy. 21 And your companion is not insane. 22 Assuredly he beheld him in the horizon manifest. 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
