The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 For what crime she was put to death; 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 When the world on High is unveiled; 11 when Hell shall be set blazing, 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 And the breath of morning 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 there he is obeyed and held trustworthy. 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 he is not grudging of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is naught but an admonition unto the worlds 27 to every one of you who wishes to tread the straight path. 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
