The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 They do not expect any reward 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
