The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 And when the stars fall down. 2 the mountains are scattered about as dust, 3 when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned, 4 And when wild animals are herded together. 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 When souls are reunited (with the bodies) 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 and when Heaven is laid bare; 11 And when hell is further enflamed. 12 when Paradise is brought close: 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 So verily I call to witness the planets - that recede, 15 Go straight, or hide; 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, 19 Full of power, well-established (in position) with the Lord and Master of the Throne, 20 Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 And indeed he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] in the clear horizon (towards the east). 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 Nor is this the word of an outcast devil. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 to everyone of you who wills to walk a straight way. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
