The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 the stars are made to fade away, 2 the mountains are scattered about as dust, 3 And when the she-camels big with young shall be abandoned, 4 And when wild animals are herded together. 5 When the oceans boil over with a swell; 6 And when souls are united, 7 And the little girl buried alive is asked 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 When the ledgers are laid open, 10 And when the heaven has its covering removed, 11 And when the hell is kindled up, 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 No! I swear by the slinkers, 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 and by the night as it recedes, 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger 19 with strength endowed, secure with Him who in almightiness is enthroned 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 Your Companion is not mad, 22 he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon; 23 he is not grudging of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 It is naught but a reminder for the nations, 27 So let those who want, choose the right guidance 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
