The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe to those who are fraudulent in (weighing and measuring), 1 those who, when they are to receive their due from [other] people, demand that it be given in full 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what will make you know what Sijjin is? 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Woe, that Day, to the deniers, 10 Those who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When Our revelations are conveyed to him, he says, "Fables of the ancients!" 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Nay, verily, from [the grace of] their Sustainer shall they on that Day be debarred; 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 Would that you knew what Illiyin is! 19 A Register inscribed. 20 witnessed by those who are near (to Allah). 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 upon couches gazing; 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 It (that wine) will be mixed with Tasnim. 27 a source [of bliss] whereof those who are drawn close unto God shall drink. 28 Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the believers. 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 And when they saw them, they said: verily these are the strayed ones. 32 though they were not sent to be their keepers -- 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 On high thrones, watching. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing? 36
