The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe to the diminishers, 1 Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. 2 But when they measure out to others or weigh out for them, they are deficient. 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 for a great Day, 5 The Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)? 6 No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house! 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Woe, on that day, to those who have rejected God's revelations 10 those who deny the Day of Judgement. 11 No one denies it except for the evil aggressor. 12 Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old. 13 By no means! Aye! encrusted upon their hearts is that which they have been earning. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 and then, behold, they shall enter the blazing fire 16 and who will be told, "This is what you had called a lie". 17 Nay, verily the record of the Righteous is (preserved) in 'Illiyin. 18 And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun? 19 a written record, 20 To which bear witness those nearest (to Allah, i.e. the angels). 21 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 22 On thrones, looking (at all things). 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine whereon the seal [of God] will have been set, 25 which have the fragrance of musk. This is the kind of place for which one should really aspire. 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink. 28 Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the believers. 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 And when they saw them, they said: verily these are the strayed ones. 32 And they were not sent to be keepers over them. 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 Will not the disbelievers then be duly recompensed for their laughing at the believers? 36
