The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 He will be judged with an easy account 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 he shall call for destruction 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
