The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] 2 And when the earth is stretched forth, 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Therefore, give them the news of a painful punishment. 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
