The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 he shall surely receive an easy reckoning 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 Indeed, those who are bent on denying the truth reject it -- 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
