The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him! 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
