The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the heavens and al-tariq. 1 What could let you know what the nightly comer is! 2 It is the shining star -- 3 For every soul there is a watcher. 4 So let man observe from what he was created. 5 He was created from spurting fluid, 6 Issuing from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 God has all power to resurrect him. 8 On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. 9 He will have no strength or helper. 10 By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, 11 And the earth which opens up with verdure, 12 this (Qur'an) is surely a decisive Word, 13 and it is certainly not a jest. 14 They are hatching up a plot, 15 and I am devising guile. 16 Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). 17
