Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a high Garden 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
Almighty Allah's Truth.
