Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
