Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 hearing there no babble; 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
