Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism). 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 and couches raised high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
