Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
