Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In an elevated garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and well spread carpets. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
