Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 in a sublime garden, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 and couches raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
