Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
God the Almighty always says the truth.
