Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 Toiling, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and arranged cushions 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
