Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
