Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
