Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
