Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours - thereupon he says, "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
