Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
