Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
