Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
