Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
