The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
Almighty God's Truth.
